This photo, taken in Camden, NJ, could easily be posted in many firehouses across The United States. From a CIVILIAN and FF SURVIVAL STANDPOINT, no matter WHAT CITY....the Fire Chief must make it clear to the Elected Officials, the Firefighters and Community, based upon the cuts, what should be expected by the Firefighters and what may not be possible.

In other words: What we MAY and MAY NOT be able to do...with less.

Simply put, if a department is arriving a minutes later with less firefighters, there will be more fire and a greater chance that potentially trapped victims may not be saved-no matter how brave or heroic the firefighters may be.

That is not to say that firefighters will not or should not make every possible attempt to save a life...that's what we do. However, because of decisions made by short sighted elected officials, failing to understand that "fire" service is as basic and critical a service that local government can provide, they are further and more greatly risking civilian and firefighter lives. At some point, the community MUST be told the FACTS as far as what they can-and cannot expect from a poorly funded and poorly staffed fire department.

This is not about EMOTIONS. This is about THE FACTS.
